The Bridgnorth & District Art Society was formed in 1985 by a group of artists from in and around the town. Almost 40 years later, the society has become the leading art group for Bridgnorth and surrounding area which works to promote and encourage involvement and appreciation in arts of all types, using a wide range of media. Our society is not-for-profit and open to artists of all levels and abilities. We welcome everyone from beginners and those who haven’t picked up a paintbrush since their youth, through to keen amateurs and full time professionals. Our members’ skills and preferences are varied and includes those who work with watercolours, acrylic and oil paints, sketchers and drawers using pencils, pastels and charcoal, as well as crafters, potters and sculptors. Our activities include weekly practical sessions, monthly demonstrations with leading artists, workshops, ‘en plein air’ painting days, visits to art festivals and galleries. Our annual art exhibition ‘Art Among the Pews’ is so called due to its venue of the Church of St Leonard in Bridgnorth, by courtesy of the Historic Churches Trust, which takes place in August.
